The only bronze foundry in the Bahamas, this is certainly one of the most unique places to purchase art in the Bahamas. Additionally, Peter Johnson keeps an art gallery on the beach where those interested in his artwork, and the works of other locals, can browse and perhaps take a piece of home as a souvenir.
The bronze foundry was built so that the Johnsons could cast their sculptures, which they do exceedingly well. Their primary muse is local marine and wild life. In the gallery, patrons may purchase bronze art sculpture which has been created by three generations of Johnstons who founded the settlement of Little Harbour in the 1950s. Their pieces can be viewed in the gallery in addition to pottery by Alice Bain, boxes and prints from Bob Zwickel and Pam Webb, and photographs by Tuppy Weatherford. Some of the most popularly sold items are the smaller bronzes mounted on driftwood.
Johnston Foundry & Gallery can be found near the middle of the island of Great Abaco, near Winding Bay; it's 14.7 miles to the south of Hopetown.
If you enjoy comparison shopping, you're probably out of luck -- but you could consider stopping by one of the other local shops that are fairly close, like Pete's Pub & Gallery. It's located just less than a hundred yards (less than a hundred meters) South West of Johnston Foundry & Gallery, so it wouldn't be difficult to visit there as well.
