Crash Boat Beach

The site of a former military port that was used as a jumping off point for rescuing air crews, Crash Boat Beach was aptly named for this history. Some of the pier infrastructure remains from this time, though those who aren't aware of the history call it an eyesore.

Located in the vicinity of Aguadilla, 1.9 miles north-northwest of downtown Aguadilla, Crash Boat Beach is on the West edge of Puerto Rico. You might want even if you are not staying particularly close by. A surprisingly wide range of visitors end up loving Crash Boat Beach; it's not too far off the beaten path, plus it's rarely packed with crowds of beachgoers. If you're not interested in Puerto Rico's completely quiet and hidden beaches, but don't want to fight the crowds every step of the way, this beach offers a comfortable middle ground.

How to Access The Beach
Just a coupe miles from Highway 2, Crash Boat Beach is easy to spot and access. Follow the road signs on Route 107 and you'll get there without any trouble.

Amenities and Ambiance

Located on Puerto Rico's northwest coast, Crashboat Beach (or, Playa Crashboat) is a favorite amongst watersports enthusiasts. The surf is variable with a tendency to get nasty, making it a challenge to endure for less experienced swimmers, but fun for those on motorized equipment. Off shore, scuba diving is popular in the deeper water.

Crash Boat is great for surfing and swimming, thanks sections of the beach which experience different currents. Snorkeling is also great here, and to top it off, it may well be the most photographed beach in town.

Businesses selling watersports equipment, food kiosks, restrooms, and showers make up the facilities here, and there is even designated parking for the beach. It does get busy on weekends, but it is easy to see why.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. Crashboat Beach mainly attracts water sports enthusiasts and there usually aren't any crowds.

What's Nearby


You'll find this beach on the West coast of Puerto Rico. It is close to Point Borinquen Lighthouse, which is not very far away, so visitors have the option to walk or to take a cab, and it is one of a few the area's interesting attractions.

Cities and Towns

The town of Aguadilla is close-by and is in an area with plenty of worthwhile sites, while still remaining less developed and congested as some other places. From Crash Boat Beach, Aguadilla is a fairly short distance away, maybe two miles (three kilometers).


The number of other vacationers sharing this coastline can vary widely, depending on when you visit, and how full the nearby hotels are. There aren't many large hotels nearby, but you may encounter visitors from the few small lodgings in the area.

It's no problem if you start to get the munchies while hanging out at Crash Boat Beach; there are lots of nearby options when it comes to dining. One of the nearest restaurants is El Meson Sandwiches Cam El Mango. This restaurant serves delicious American cuisine. Many guests rave about their sandwiches. When you start to get hungry, you won't need to wait too long to eat as it's not far off the beach at all.
