Named for the way the sea shells on the beach resemble the setting sun, Sommerset Beach Creek is a quiet locale on Andros Island where visitors can split their days between swimming, sunning, and beach combing.

Located on the eastern coast of North Andros Island, You should consider stopping by even if you aren't staying very close. Even if you love being in the middle of all the action, there are some perks to visiting a beach that isn't surrounded by thousands of hotel rooms; the lovely, less-traveled shores of beaches like Sommerset Creek Beach might not be typical "beach scenes", but are nice and private.

Sommerset Creek Beach is accessible via a long dirt road called Beach Road that splits off Queen's Highway and heads towards the east coast of Andros Island.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.

Sommerset Creek Beach is beautiful natural site, which you'll find on the East coast of North Andros Island. You can stay at the nearby Treasures of Andros, which is perhaps the closest hotel near Sommerset Creek Beach, despite the lack of other nearby attractions.

Cities and Towns

The closest town is Nassau, which is an interesting area that brings together the quietude of the Caribbean and the urbanization of city life. From the beach, Andros Town is a quick trip away, roughly two and a half miles (four and a half kilometers).


Whether this spot is full of bodies or practically empty will depend on if you visit during a popular season, which is often indicated by how busy the hotels are. There are not many large hotels nearby, but you may see guests staying at the few small lodgings in the area.

North Andros Island has many nice beaches, so if Sommerset Creek Beach doesn't suit you, you can still find a great spot.

You might also enjoy Small Hope Bay Beach, located within a mile or so. More active guests, though, may be interested in Andros Lighthouse Beach, which offers a little more opportunity for excitement, and isn't far from nearby attractions. It's located two and a half miles to the northwest.

Another location you may want to try is Love Hill Beach, which is located fairly close-by, meaning a short ride in a taxi should put you in the right spot to check out this other choice.

Sommerset Creek Beach could be the ideal stretch of sand, but it is possible that it may not be the best choice for your family; if so, the Bahamas offers a variety of beaches for travelers who wish to try elsewhere.
