Despite Anguilla's reputation of catering to upper class tourists, the availability of golf on the island is minimal. What the golf scene lacks in quantity, however, it makes up for in quality, so golf fanatics who can't bear to go their entire Anguillan vacation without teeing off can make arrangements to do so at one of the best courses in the Caribbean.
The Anguilla Golf Association was formed in 2001, before a golf course even existed on the island. Through the help of the organization, two courses have since opened, and multiple golf education programs have come to fruition. Unfortunately, frequent visitors to Anguilla may not join the association, as one must be a local resident, property owner, or hold a valid work permit.
Once known as Tenemos Golf Club, Cuisinart Golf Club in West End is Anguilla's first (and only) full 18-hole championship golf course. Named one of the Best Courses in the Caribbean and Mexico, the course is managed by the CuisinArt Resort & Spa. It was designed by Greg Norman and first built in 2006, then improved upon in 2011 when Cuisinart Resort took ownership. Picturesque views of Anguilla scenery are the focus of this moderately challenging course and recent renovations include a revamp of one of Anguilla's landmarks, Merrywing Salt Pond. Off in the distance, the island of Sint Maarten can be spotted from the course as well, particularly from the tee box at the first hole. The course is a total of 7,063 yards, and welcomes golfers of every skill level to try it out. Regular green fees begin at $180(USD), and you can rent clubs for $55(USD). You can contact the Cuisinart Golf Club at 264-498-5602.

Each year, golf brings its own set of tourists to the island of Anguilla. Many come simply to get a chance to play the CuisinArt golf course, while others come to participate in golf tournaments. The Ruben Brown Celebrity Golf Tournament is one that brings celebrities together in April to raise funds for a community project, such as a center for local youths. It is played by celebrities from the Caribbean and the U.S. that may not have pro-status golf skills, but are well-versed enough to make viewing interesting.
The latest golf event to arrive on Anguilla is the Anguilla Open Golf Tournament. The first was held in June of 2012 at the CuisinArt Resort & Spa. Over 100 talented golfers from the United States, Anguilla, Sint Maarten, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, the Bahamas, , and Guadeloupe paid a $300(USD) entry fee to participate in this championship event that could earn them several thousand dollars. The event was kicked off with an opening reception, and winners were recognized at the closing reception.
Golf in Anguilla is a possibility. Make sure to schedule your tee times in advance to ensure availability, and your dream of golfing with the Caribbean Sea as your backdrop is on its way to coming true.
