This is the most popular of the two beaches at the St. James's Club resort, because of its close proximity to most of the rooms and restaurants. This beach is especially popular with guests of the resort during the summer, when the steady breeze off the ocean is especially welcome.
Situated in Mamora Bay, St. James Club Beach is on the South coast of Antigua. You might want to drop by regardless of whether you are staying in the immediate vicinity. St. James Club Beach is one of those beautiful but fun beaches that doesn't usually get packed with beachgoers, but it's not totally void of people either.
St. James Beach with its powder white sand and palm lined shores features waters that are just slightly rougher than its sister beach of Mamora Bay Beach because it opens to the sea and often experiences stronger winds. Gazing out over the water from the shore, beach-goers will notice that the color of the water changes the deeper the water gets, starting with bright turquoise and moving to more deeper blues.
Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. Luckily, umbrellas and chairs will be available for use to guests seeking a relaxing spot in the shade.
You'll find this beach on the South coast of Antigua; the area hosts attractions such as Shirley Heights Fort, which is only a short distance away, so some guests will want to walk to this attraction, while others will choose to take a cab.
Beaches and museums may seem an odd combination to some, but many travelers find that museums like Admiral House (positioned just a quick cab ride or walk away) offer an entertaining diversion and help visitors understand Antigua's interesting past.
