Sending and receiving mail in the Bahamas is easy and convenient, so feel free to mail a postcard back home as long as it carries a Bahamian postage stamp.

Tourist kiosks supply stamps, so an extra trip to the post office is not necessary. The base cost for a letter or postcard is $0.65(USD) to the United States, Canada, and the West Indies, as long as it weighs less than one half ounce. Each half ounce thereafter is subject to an additional fee, and mailing to other countries can run up to about $0.80(USD). You can receive mail in the Bahamas at most resorts, but it may be wise to check with the front office to make sure if you are expecting mail. If sending or receiving airmail from the Out Islands, be prepared to wait; mail service from these islands is slow, even by air.

The post office branches located through the Bahamas usually keep standard hours of operation. Post offices are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

When sending mail to or from the Bahamas, expect the following delivery times for the following countries:

Country Airmail Time
Australia 3 to 4 weeks
Canada 1 to 2 weeks
New Zealand 3 to 4 weeks
United Kingdom 2 to 3 weeks
United States 1 to 2 weeks

Sending greetings by "snail mail" isn't as popular as it once was, but your friends and family will be thrilled if you take the time to drop a post card in the mail for them.  Now that you know the cost, show them you were thinking about them with a little something sent the old fashioned way.
