Wedding Locations and Venues in the Bahamas

When you plan a wedding in the Bahamas, the location and venue options are endless

A total of more than 700 islands means that there are a vast number of locations for you to plan your Bahamas wedding.  From a quiet beach side ceremony on one of the Out Islands to an extravagant affair in Nassau, if you dream it for your wedding day, it can become a reality in the Bahamas.

One of the most challenging parts about planning a wedding in the Bahamas is finding a venue without having the chance to pay a visit to the area prior to booking it.  Because of this, many people decide to solicit the service of an event professional to handle every detail surrounding their wedding. Should you decide to do all the planning on your own, determining the style of wedding you want to have will assist you to reduce your possible choices drastically, helping to make the whole task a bit less complex.

Choosing an Island

Because there are over 700 islands in the Bahamas, the first step in deciding upon your wedding location is choosing an island.

New Providence Island

New Providence Island mixes modern cities with small settlements on an island that seems to have something for everyone.  Two thirds of the entire population of the Bahamas lives on this island, mostly in the city of Nassau.  Can't miss sites here are Fort Charlotte, Queen's Staircase, and the Versailles Garden and French Cloister.  Just over the bridge is Paradise Island, a resort area with renowned beaches.

Grand Bahama Island

Grand Bahama Island is the second most popularly visited of the Bahamas island chain.  Freeport is the largest city on the island, and is the hub of all things commercial.  Meanwhile, West End is a charming fishing village and East End is underdeveloped, comprised of small towns and villages.  Attractions on this island include Garden of the Groves, Grand Bahama Museum, Treasure Bay Casino, and Lacayan National Park.

Out Islands

The Out Islands (also known as the Family Islands) are a collection of the Bahamas smaller, much less populated islets.  These islands collectively are best for off-the-map destination weddings, where seclusion and quiet are key.  Eco-tourism plays a big part of what draws vacationers to these islands, with diving, snorkeling, fishing, climbing, and beach-going being the top activities

Types of Ceremonies

When it comes to your ceremony, your Bahamas wedding is only limited by your imagination. While the most commonly seen style of wedding planned by foreigners is a beach ceremony, this is not the only alternative to choose from.

Traditional Wedding

Many couples wish to host a traditional style of wedding, which usually occurs in a religious establishment.  Even in a tropical location like the Bahamas, brides can have all these dreams come true. Your event planner can aid you in finding a chapel or synagogue that falls in line with your beliefs.  Keep in mind that couples planning a Roman Catholic ceremony will be required to receive counseling from their own pastor over a period of six weeks before the wedding.  Your pastor must report this to the Chancery in Nassau before the ceremony can take place.

Couples will discover that the Caribbean Sea delivers some of the most crystal clear, tranquil waters, and amazing views. You may decide to get married aboard a major cruise line that makes a stop in the Bahamas, or reserve a chartered vessel for a few hours. It's also possible to charter the boat for a complete day and hold the reception on the vessel as well.  Our guide to Sailing and Yachting in the Bahamas will give you an idea of what chartering services are available.
