The Bottom Bay is a wide beach enclosed by coral cliffs and tall palm trees. The area is a popular picnic spot, while swimming is recommended only for advanced surfers, as rough waves and strong currents can be difficult to manage otherwise.
Located in St. Philip Parish, 0.6 miles east of Harrismith, Bottom Bay is on the East edge of Barbados. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the immediate vicinity. Bottom Bay stands out from other beaches because it's perfect for escaping the hustle of Barbados' urban areas. Most other beaches in Barbados may provide just as many amenities as Bottom Bay, but are usually more cramped since they're right in the thick of tourists' favorite hangouts.
Bottom Bay is accessible via Highway 5 and features a small parking lot off of local roads. A short trail takes guests to the main beach.
Bottom Bay is a wide stretch of white sand that is lined with coconut palms and even has its own cave. To access the beach, visitors can park on top of a cliff and walk down steps to the azure waters. Medium to large waves dominate the surf, which makes the area ideal for watersports or those looking to take in the incredible natural views of the southeast of the island.
Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. Bottom Bay is not a heavily populated tourist-y beach, so visitors will find themselves somewhat secluded from the rest of the island. There is a large resort nearby, though, and guests of the hotel are sure to wander down to Bottom Bay.
Bottom Bay offers visitors a calm and relaxing place to escape, as the area surrounding the beach is far from urbanized.
This beach is positioned on the East coast of Barbados. It is close to, which is only a short distance away. Visitors will have the option to take a taxi or to walk, and it is one of the attractions close-by.
Historical attractions like St. Philip's Church provide the perfect compliment to an afternoon at Bottom Bay, and give visitors the opportunity to learn more about Barbados' past, without having to venture too far from the coast. Bathsheba is the closest town and is in an area with interesting things to do and see, but isn't as sprawling and crowded as some other areas. From Bottom Bay, Bathsheba isn't out of reach at eight and a half miles (13 and a half kilometers) away.
The popularity of this spot on any given day can vary, depending on everything from the time the sun sets to how full nearby hotel rooms are. At this beach, you can expect to share the sand with more than a few other guests who are staying close by.

One of the best ways to round off a laid-back trek to the beach is to visit a local restaurant, where you'll be able to try foods you've never heard of before, without straying too far from your current location. One of the closest places to eat is The Seagrill. The restaurant offers both contemporary and International dishes on the menu. They're perhaps most famous, though, for their seafood.

Of course, there are lots of other spots along the coast of Barbados, so Bottom Bay is just one of your options.
Another location you might enjoy is Sam Lord's Beach, an additional spot which offers ample quietude and peace. If you're looking for a more active beach scene, you might find that Ragged Point is just right. It's found two miles to the north-northwest.
You might also want to visit Harrismith Beach, which is located only a short distance away.
While the area offers plenty of picturesque views and exciting attractions, a trip to Bottom Bay could end up a family favorite.
