Unlike other Caribbean islands, Barbados does not have many ferry services. Luckily, another option allows travelers to get a taste of the beautiful seas and excellent weather for which the island is known.
Vacationers can charter catamarans and yachts for tours. Generally, these boats are rented out with a full crew and knowledgeable guides who are eager to point out areas of interest. Visitors can join an already-scheduled yacht cruise or create a sailing tour customized to their own interests.
Once in Barbados, the best way to find a local boat and guide in a marina near your hotel or resort is to ask the concierge staff. The yellow pages or local business directory may also be a good resource, but travelers are advised to do some comparison shopping to find competitive rates.
There is some hope for a ferry though. There are rumors that Bedy Oceanliner might begin operations on the island. Keep in mind, however, that the last update from that company was in 2011, so future operations are uncertain.
The lack of inter-island ferries on Barbados doesn't have to slow you down. The availability of chartered yachts and scheduled local cruises provide an excellent customizable alternative to getting around the island.
