Orchid World opened in 1998 at the behest of the then Prime Minister of Barbados, and has since then provided a lovely attraction for visitors who enjoy the chance to walk through a lush garden and see a wide variety of orchids flourishing in the warm temperatures of the island.

Over 30,000 orchids and other tropical plants are carefully cared for on six acres at Groves Plantation.

One of the few orchid botanical gardens in the region, Orchid World is a popular attraction that fits right in on the Caribbean island. As you explore the gardens, you will get a first hand look at the natural beauty of the island. Tours through the orchid gardens are available, and umbrellas are even provided to guests on rainy days.

Location

Situated toward the center of St. George, 1.8 miles east of Applewhaites, Orchid World always welcomes local residents and tourists lodging in this part of Barbados. Regardless of whether or not you're staying very close, you should consider dropping by for some fun in the sun. It's 3.9 miles south-southwest of Bathsheba.

Visitors traveling by bus should ride aboard the Sergeant Street bus from the Fairchild Main Terminal in Bridgetown. The bus lets off right in front of Orchid World once an hour. In all this trip can take around forty minutes, so for time and ease, it is recommended that visitors take a taxi or drive themselves. Drivers can take Highway 3 to Market Hill and turn onto Groves or Highway 4 to Newbury, and on to Groves. Purple signs point to Orchid World.

Nearby Restaurants

There are many eateries to choose from in the neighborhood immediately near the gardens. Naniki Restaurant, which has a menu full of Caribbean fare, is very close-by, making it a great option for garden visitors. The restaurant is just around two and a half miles from the botanical gardens, so grab a table and eat up! Paulo's Churrasco Do Brasil and Pizza Man Doc Warrens are a couple other dining possibilities in close to this natural attraction. At Pizza Man Doc Warrens you should be sure to test out Italian fare and enjoy the culture of Barbados.

Nearby Attractions

Travelers who are a fan of botanical gardens, and have the energy to view some others, should consider Hunte's Garden and Flower Forest; the first and closest of which is two and a half miles to the north of this page's attraction. There are at least one or two other activities in the area, including Fisherpond Great House, which is three quarters of a mile away St. George. You might also think about checking out Gun Hill Signal Station, which is another nearby attraction.
