River Bay is surrounded by dramatic rock formations and features exciting waves that pound the shoreline. The area is a popular spot for walking and picnics, but isn't ideal for swimming.

Located just outside the heart of St. Lucy Parish, 0.5 miles east of Seaview, River Bay is on the North edge of Barbados. You might want to drop by even if you are not staying in the immediate vicinity. It's often said that River Bay is one of the best spots for escaping the typical tourist haunts. Most other beaches in Barbados may provide just as many amenities as River Bay, but are usually more crowded since they're found in the most popular parts of town.

How to Access The Beach
Access to River Bay requires a short climb, so be sure you're physically prepared. The government recently developed the area with a road and bathroom facilities, which can be accessed off of Highway 1C.

Amenities and Ambiance

The area is surrounded by dramatic rock formations and tends to be uncrowded. A river runs into the Atlantic ocean, making the area an excellent place for exploration. Whales and other wildlife have been spotted from the shoreline, so be sure to bring a camera!

Restrooms are available at River Bay. You'll appreciate that showers are available, so you can rinse off the sand. Additionally, guests will have access to lounge chairs at this spot. The water in the area is clear enough for snorkeling, so bring your equipment if you're looking to see what goes on beneath the surface.

One of the more serene beaches, River Bay as well as its choice of amenities are sure to be a popular choice for anyone wishing to find a place away from the busy beaches and crowded shores since it is hiding in a calm region. With this in mind, you will generally find all amenities open to use, not having been scooped up by others.

This beach is positioned on the North coast of Barbados. It is near St. Nicholas Abbey, which is an easy taxi ride's distance, and it is among the area's attractions.

Historical attractions like Grenade Hall Forest Signal Station offer a nice compliment to a soothing day at River Bay, and provide beachgoers with the opportunity to learn about Barbados' past, without having to stray too far from the beach. As a matter of fact, you'll find this spot easily reached by taxi from this place of historical significance.

The popularity of this spot on any given day can vary, depending on time of day, season, and how many people have booked nearby hotels. River Bay is not near very many major hotels, but it's often visited by guests staying at smaller lodgings in the area.

Vacationers who are looking for the ideal beach will have plenty of other choices in Barbados besides River Bay.

Travelers who like this beach might also enjoy Mullins Beach, located only a taxi trip away from the shore. Mullins Bay is a popular beach with easy access that attracts lots of visitors. Water lovers can indulge in a number of water sports, plus snorkeling and swimming. A beach bar keeps everyone happy, sporty or not. However, if that's not exactly what you're looking for, Little Bay could provide a few more possibilities for excitement, and isn't far from other popular destinations. It's located a mile and a half to the southeast.

Travelers may also want to consider Six Men's Bay, located five miles away.

Barbados has plenty to offer its visitors, and paying a visit to River Bay is just one way you can spend your afternoon.
