Rental cars are hard to come by on Barbuda

If you can avoid renting a car on Barbuda, it is recommended that you do so. The hotels on the island are quick to help guests get around, and between that possibility, tours, and the small size of the island to begin with, you can easily manage without a vehicle at your fingertips.

Renting a Car

There are very few situations in which one might need to rent a car on Barbuda. The road conditions are poor, gas and rental prices are high, and more over, rentals are simply hard to come by. If you are one of the travelers who will need to be in possession of a vehicle on this island, you'll have to put in a little bit of work to find someone willing to rent to you.

If you are able to secure a rental, you'll need to be over the age of 23 and have a local Antiguan driver's license. You can purchase this from the person renting to you for $20(USD), which will be added to the cost of your rental. You'll pay $50(USD) or more to rent here, and it would be wise to ask for a Jeep, which are best equipped to handle the unpaved back roads.

Most people would tell you to forget the idea of renting a car on Barbuda, but for some visitors it is a necessity. Although it can be hard to pull off, it is not an impossible task, so if you are someone who can't avoid renting a car, rest assured your vacation here will not be ruined by the lack of wheels.
