With rental cars hard to come by, the go-to for many tourists staying on Barbuda is to hire a taxi to take them around. Whether you simply need a ride from the airport to your hotel, or you'd like an in depth tour, local taxi operators are up for the challenge.
Taxis are easy to find at the Cordington Airport and by the wharf awaiting tourists at the two main entry points to the island. You shouldn't have any trouble picking a taxi out, because these are generally the only cars on the road. If you don't feel confident hailing a cab, or you honestly can't find one, just give the local taxi company a call and they will send someone out to you. This is also a wise idea when you need a ride from your hotel.
If you'd rather make reservations for a cab to meet you at a reserved time and location, you may want to call any of these these taxi services.

You'll notice that there are no meters in the cabs because the rates are set in advance by the Barbuda Council. Just ask your driver for the rate card when you get in so you can review the price, and always make sure to confirm so you know you're looking at the correct listing. It is also wise to leave room for a 10 to 15 percent tip for your driver in your transportation budget. This is especially true if you use your driver as a tour guide as many visitors are want to do.
Even if taxis are not your favorite mode of transportation when you go on vacation, a trip to Barbuda means it is necessary to think outside the box. Fortunately, drivers here are friendly, cabs are easy to call for a ride, and the prices won't break the bank.
