Historical Sites

Enjoy learning about the historical roots of countries you visit? If so, you should consider visiting one or two of these historical attractions during your stay.

Many travelers choose to visit Aqueduc et Réservoir de Petite Guinée. It is situated in western Basse Terre. Built in the early part of the 18th century, these water works were built from stone and formed an aqueduct, reservoir, and circular pool. A simple arch and a vaulted tank with a gable roof make up the site which is a nice stop for those interested in architecture.

Another interesting landmark worth visiting is Résidence Arsenal. It is located within western Basse Terre. In its life span of over 300 years, this property has been a Jesuit Monestary, an artillery barracks, and a residential community. There is a lot of history here, and tourists are welcome to walk through and see it for themselves.

Habitation la Griveliere: Learn how coffee is made locally as you participate in this guided tour that takes you through the forest and includes a homemade local lunch.
