Snorkeling Around Basse Terre

Although snorkeling is great throughout Guadeloupe, many agree that the best sites are accessible off the coast of Basse Terre – but you'll need a boat to get to them.

The reason for that is that Basse Terre is where most snorkeling tours take off to visit Jacques Cousteau's Underwater Reserve which includes Pigeon Island.  This location is extremely popular among scuba divers and snorkelers thanks to the shallow reefs and beautiful scenery that they promote.  Most scuba diving operators and boat tours make daily trips here, and you'll usually pay upwards of $40(USD) for the experience.

You can, of course, choose to stick to the of Basse Terre with a snorkeling kit you've either brought along with you on your trip or rented from a dive shop.  The cost for this is usually between $15 and $20(USD).
