The beaches of Basseterre and the surrounding area are known for their calm nature, which makes them a prime target for over population, especially when cruise ships are in port. Still, most agree that the soft sands and crystalline waters, despite the numerous people that could easily overpopulate the beaches, make them worth the trip.
You'll discover a large selection of beaches to enjoy, although they are all found in neighboring areas. Snorkeling is an option at some of these beaches, if some members of your party enjoy this relaxing pastime. Just click on each beach name for a detailed review of that specific beach.
A local beach where snorkeling is popular is Frigate Bay South. A geographical wonder, Frigate Bay is divided into two sections that straddle that Atlantic and Caribbean. North Frigate Bay is located on the Atlantic and has rough, turbulent waters.
A second option that beach-goers can consider is Frigate Bay North. Curving gently along the peninsula's coast, Frigate Bay North is flanked on either side by rock formations, the most impressive of which being on the southern end. The sand on the Atlantic side is fine and golden in front of the resorts and condominiums, and the ocean views are spectacular.
South Friar's Bay: Heading southwest from Basseterre toward the peninsula, you'll find a roundabout which will put you on the only road that goes to this part of the island. The road will wind quite a bit, and you'll take your second right.
