Beaches in Basseterre

The beaches of Basseterre and the surrounding area are known for their calm nature, which makes them a prime target for over population, especially when cruise ships are in port.  Still, most agree that the soft sands and crystalline waters, despite the numerous people that could easily overpopulate the beaches, make them worth the trip.

Pick Your Ideal Beach

There are an abundance of beaches to enjoy, though all of them are located nearby. Snorkeling is an option at some of the beaches, for those who enjoy the underwater scene. You can click on the name of the beach for a detailed article concerning that beach.

Frigate Bay South

One beach where snorkeling is popular is Frigate Bay South. Heading south from the Marriot resort on the Atlantic side, you'll reach a roundabout. Going straight through will take you to the Caribbean coast and put you right on the beach.

Another location that beach-goers can consider is Frigate Bay North. Curving gently along the peninsula's coast, Frigate Bay North is flanked on either side by rock formations, the most impressive of which being on the southern end. The sand on the Atlantic side is fine and golden in front of the resorts and condominiums, and the ocean views are spectacular.

South Friar's Bay: Heading southwest from Basseterre toward the peninsula, you'll find a roundabout which will put you on the only road that goes to this part of the island. The road will wind quite a bit, and you'll take your second right.
