The beaches of Basseterre and the surrounding area are known for their calm nature, which makes them a prime target for over population, especially when cruise ships are in port. Still, most agree that the soft sands and crystalline waters, despite the numerous people that could easily overpopulate the beaches, make them worth the trip.
There are an abundance of beaches to enjoy, although each of them are found in neighboring areas. Snorkeling is available at some of the beaches, for vacationers who are so inclined. Just click on individual beach names to get additional information about that particular location.
One beach that's good for snorkeling is Frigate Bay South. Heading south from the Marriot resort on the Atlantic side, you'll reach a roundabout. Going straight through will take you to the Caribbean coast and put you right on the beach.
A second location for beach-goers to consider is Frigate Bay North. The north section of Frigate Bay is much more extensively developed than the southern part, and is home to the Marriott Resort & Casino. Constantly humming with activity, you'll find entertainment here day or night.
South Friar's Bay: Heading southwest from Basseterre toward the peninsula, you'll find a roundabout which will put you on the only road that goes to this part of the island. The road will wind quite a bit, and you'll take your second right.
