The beaches of Basseterre and the surrounding area are known for their calm nature, which makes them a prime target for over population, especially when cruise ships are in port.  Still, most agree that the soft sands and crystalline waters, despite the numerous people that could easily overpopulate the beaches, make them worth the trip.

Which Beaches Are Available?

You'll find a large number of beaches to consider, though all of them are located nearby. Snorkeling is available at several locations, if some members of your party are so inclined. For a detailed review of any one of these beaches click on the names of the ones you want to learn more about.

Frigate Bay South

A beach where you may find people snorkeling is Frigate Bay South. A geographical wonder, Frigate Bay is divided into two sections that straddle that Atlantic and Caribbean. North Frigate Bay is located on the Atlantic and has rough, turbulent waters.

A second alternative to consider is Frigate Bay North. The north section of Frigate Bay is much more extensively developed than the southern part, and is home to the Marriott Resort & Casino. Constantly humming with activity, you'll find entertainment here day or night.

South Friar's Bay: From swimming and snorkeling on the south side, to body surfing on the north, Friar's Bay offers plenty of activities to visitors. The powdery sands on both sides are perfect for sunbathing.
