Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

The co-cathedral is the current reincarnation of the Catholic Church in Basseterre. The first was destroyed by British soldiers in 1706. No Catholic Church could be found in the city until 1856, bearing the name Church of the Immaculate Conception. It was reconstructed in its modern form from 1926 to 1928.

Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is located in downtown Basseterre, meaning visitors to this part of St. Kitts and Nevis will have easy access to this historic attraction for the duration of their trip. You won't find the area surrounding the historical site flooded with tourists, particularly since there are very few lodgings nearby.

Location and What's Nearby

There are a handful of closely located alfresco activities to get in on during the times when you are not taking in Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Historic site visitors looking to follow-up with a few holes of golf should consider going to the closest course, Royal St. Kitts Golf Club. If golfing isn't your thing, think about heading over to Half Moon Bay, the most convenient beach to visit. Although you won't find an extensive selection nearby, one or two other comparable recreation options can be reached from Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Guests will find a variety of other local attractions in this general vicinity. You'll find a couple of spots worth checking out -Basseterre Courthouse and Victoria Monument- both of which are located a short distance from the historic site.
