Flying to Bathsheba

A flight to your vacation in Bridgetown is easy to pull off

Bathsheba is not a location that has its own private airport, but that doesn't deter anyone from visiting. Just under 40 minutes south of town is the Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), one of the most modern facilities in the Caribbean.

After millions of dollars worth of renovations which took over a decade to complete, Grantley Adams International Airport has landed itself near the top of the list of the best and most modern airports in the region. Features include an 11,000 foot long asphalt runway which connects to five taxiways, two terminals, and 22 gates.

Getting to this airport from the United States, Canada, and Europe is fairly simple. More than two dozen cities offer direct flights including Miami, New York City, and Frankfurt. In some cases, you'll find flights that work out better for your schedule by planning for a layover at the airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

When flying from the states this information may be of help. Not all flights you will see on the internet are good options so it helps to see which airlines actually fly direct to this airport.

Customs

Traveling through Customs at Grantley Adams International Airport is no more difficult than doing so anywhere else. Visitors need a valid passport as well as return or onward ticket. If you're visiting for more than three months, a visa will be necessary as well. One odd rule to be aware of is the fact that all camouflage materials are prohibited. If you bring anything, even clothing, that has camouflage print, it will be confiscated until you leave the country.

Next Stop, Bathsheba

From the airport, you can hire a taxi to take you to Bathsheba for $36.50(USD). You'll see drivers circling the lot waiting to pick up passengers, and it is also common for them to have handlers inside he airport directing traffic to the taxis. Make sure you get into a cab marked with the Authorised Airport Taxi Logo. The bus is also a possibility, with a stop located just across the street from the parking lot of the main terminal. The ride will cost $0.75(USD).

A few local rental car agencies are available in the main terminal for those who want to drive themselves. If this is you, you'll exit the airport heading east and take a left onto Tom Adams Highway. Your next move will be a left toward Highway 6, using the second exit of the roundabout to exit onto the road. Next, take a left onto Highway 5, the first exit in the next roundabout, a left onto Highway 4, the first right onto Highway 4B, a sharp right, then a left towards Highway 3. In order to get onto Highway 3, take the first right, then a slight right onto Ermy Bourne Highway. One more left turn and you'll be in Bathsheba. The drive takes about 35 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

Flying is the most popular way to get to Bathsheba, and as tourism has grown to this destination, so has the airport and all of the facilities and amenities it has to offer. As you begin planning a visit here, know that booking a flight will be one of the easier tasks on your list to accomplish.
