Responsible for the revitalization of the art of Maya Slate Carving, the Garcia sisters offer a collection of limestone and slate statues for guests to view and even purchase.
It all began when the sisters found a piece of slate in a field and were inspired to carve the rock into a whale. Although the tradition of slate carving had been lost since around 613 AD, the Garcia sisters say they found it within themselves to further the culture through this art form. Now guests can view an important part of the Maya heritage and even bring it home as a souvenir.
