An hour outside of the busy Belize City, Belmopan is actually the capital city of the country.  Smaller and quieter than many of the resort towns the coast is known for, this city still has a lot to offer visitors, from museums that touch on local history and culture, to abundance of nature that surrounds.  Stop by the Visitor's Center when you first arrive for maps and inside information about what you absolutely must see before you leave town.

An interesting landmark worth visiting is George Price Center for Peace and Development. It is located within Belmopan. If you want to maximize your sight seeing abilities, making a day out of this road and its road side attractions may be the best bet.
