For many travelers, vacation is all about sleeping in and staying up late. If this sounds like you, you'll probably spend much of your time on Bermuda checking out the bar and club landscape.
The night time scene on Bermuda is less about dancing at a disco tech, and more about hanging out at a pub or bar, listening to live music, and enjoying the company of those around you. Islanders love to drink, and Friday nights are an especially busy for going out, as Bermudans unwind after a long week. Dress tends to be smart casual, though dress codes are not typically enforced. Hamilton is the city to go to for the most variety, but there are bars and clubs located in nearly every city on the island.
Robin Hood, or “The Hood,” as locals call it, is a British style pub with a bar, TVs showing live sporting events, a restaurant serving hearty “meat and potatoes” meals, and weekly trivia nights.
Once known as Splash Nightclub, LV's Piano and Jazz Lounge is now a sophisticated jazz and wine bar. Live entertainment occurs nightly, and each night of the week is themed. Monday's showcase "Wines of the Week," Tuesday is "Mojito Night," Wednesday is the quintessential "Ladies Night," "Martini Night" lands on Thursday, and Friday breaks out the bubbly for a "Champagne Night." Dress to impress.
Fresco's Restaurant and Wine/Bar Museum features the Caribbeans singular wine museum. Guests can sample popular wines from throughout the Caribbean and savor New Bermuda cuisine.
The Pickled Onion is an award-winning martini bar that locals frequent for after work drinks. This is an upscale hangout that takes reservations, and features live entertainment every night of the week during the high season.
Situated on Front Street, Ozone Nightclub Bermuda is one of Hamilton's most popular clubs. Guests enter the club on the third floor of the building, where they then have the option of heading to the 400-square foot dance floor, mingling in the front lounge, or hitting the Lucky Strike Casino, which is located in the club. Thursday nights the club offers free salsa lessons, and during the summer months the "Rock Room" opens up, hosting performances by popular American rock bands.
Hog Penny Restaurant and Pub is located in Pembrooke Parish. During the day it is a restaurant, but after dinner it transforms into a crowded club featuring live music and a hopping dance floor.
In Sandy's, Hammerheads Bar & Grill is a casual bar that hosts beach parties each Tuesday and Thursday night. Live island music and the opportunity to dance under the stars is the draw to this event.
The Cellar in Southampton is part sports bar, part club, part pub. There are televisions for watching sporting events, pool tables, a dance floor, and a bar featuring exotic island drinks.
LIGHT Nightlife at the White Horse in St. George is the place to go for an authentic club experience Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. DJs spin the latest hits, and the music blasts through state-of-the-art speakers, and lights flash, illuminating dancers to the beat of the music. LIGHT is the only club on Bermuda located on the waters edge, and the facility features two bars – one indoors and one outdoors – to highlight this attribute. Each night of the week features a different theme, including Island Fever and Ladies Night.
...enjoy the post-sunset hours.
There are a number of resources available with information on Bermuda's nightlife and upcoming events. Perhaps the easiest to access is the events listing on Bermuda.com, but once you arrive on the island several magazines provide the most up-to-date information. The quarterly magazine The Bermudian features a calendar of events, as does the weekly This Week on Bermuda, and RG Magazine, a monthly insert into the Royal Gazette Newspaper. The Bermuda Sun newspaper prints a weekly “Scene” section each Friday, detailing the happening spots to be that weekend, and every day at 11:15 a.m. Radio VSB, FM 1450 discusses the islands goings-on. Visitors can also pick up a copy of the Bermuda Calendar of Events at any Visitor Information Centre throught out the island.
