Spittal Pond

Next to Harrington Sound and Mangrove Lake, Spittal Pond is the third largest pond on Bermuda. This spot of the main attractions at the Spittal Pond Nature Reserve and set on the Atlantic Coast in Smith's Parish.

Spittal Pond is comprise of fresh water, but still appears brackish due to storm waters from the Atlantic Ocean that can sometimes overflow into the pond.

Spittal Pond is a popular site for birders, with a wide variety of birds nesting on property. These include flamingos, the Bermuda Longtail Bird, Warblers, Grey Catbird, and more. Trails also snake around the property, making it a fun hiking spot.


Positioned on the island of Bermuda, Spittal Pond happily welcomes residents and visitors rooming on this part of the island or close by. Whether or not you are staying very close, you are free to stop by to check out the sights. It is 3.8 miles east of Hamilton.

Set near the Atlantic Coast in Smith's Parish, Spittal Pond has two entrances along South Road. Parking lots are available.

Foxy's Cafe is an ideal restaurant to dine at on your way to checking out Spittal Pond, and is the closest restaurant to it. Also close-by, you and your party will encounter eateries such as Buzz n'Go Collector's Hill and North Rock Brewing Company where you should be sure to try a bit of British cuisine and experience the Bermuda culture.

Spittal Pond is open to the public daily from dawn until dusk.


Although entry into the Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is free, a $5(USD) per person guided tour is available.
