As you can imagine with so many islands in the district, each of the Berry Islands is just slightly different with regards to renting a car. Overall, it can be said with certainty that as the only island with any mentionable square mileage and sizable amount of tourism, Great Harbour Cay is where most of the car rentals are found.
No matter which island you are on, they are all small enough that you can walk or rely on hiring someone to take you from place to place. Still, having a vehicle on hand is helpful when you want to get up and go on your own time schedule. The recommended vehicle for rental is a Jeep or other sports utility vehicle with four wheel drive because the roads are known for being rugged. You'll be able to find rental cars on Great Harbour Cay more so than anywhere else, where on the other islands it is more common to rent bicycles or scooters, and even golf carts to get around.

In order to rent any vehicle, you'll need to be over the age of 21-years-old, and have a valid driver's license from your home country. If you're going to be staying in the Bahamas for longer than three months; however, you'll need to apply for an International Driver's License.
The roads in the Berry Islands are in poor condition for the most part, though several of the main roads were repaved in recent years. Driving is done on the left side of the road, so make sure to proceed with caution until you become used to this new driving environment.
If you're staying on Great Harbour Cay, you'll be able to rent a car from a local agency for somewhere between $60 and $120(USD) a day, depending upon the model of the vehicle, extra amenities you require, and whether or not you purchase insurance.
Consider what you'll need a vehicle for before reserving your rental. If you'll use it sparingly, something simple will be fine, but if you'll be doing a lot of exploring, something that can handle the back roads will be required. Keeping this in mind, you'll have an easier time making the right choice for your driving needs in the Berry Islands.
