Boca Chica

Boca Chica's shallow waters are great for swimming and snorkeling, especially around the coral reefs -- in fact, this beach is the largest reef protected bay in the Caribbean. Water sport equipment is available at stands along the beach, so visitors should find plenty to keep them busy. A number of restaurants and bars are also within close proximity to Boca Chica, so guests can party from sun up til sun down.

Situated toward the southern outskirts of Boca Chica, this beach is on the South East edge of the Dominican Republic. You might think about stopping by regardless of whether you are staying very close. Visitors will find that, while Boca Chica is certainly not secluded, you also wouldn't call it particularly popular. It's the perfect choice for travelers who want to visit a somewhat lively beach without getting stuck in the most crowded parts of town.

How to Access The Beach
Boca Chica is located just 15 minutes from the airport in a town of the same name. Head east on Autopista Las Americas, and exit south into the peninsula.

Amenities and Ambiance

Located near the capital city of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica is a mile long stretch of white sand beach. The shallow water is crystal clear, filtered by underwater springs and protected by a natural coral reef about 1/4 mile off shore. The reef forms in a giant semi-circle, protecting the beach from rough waters. Hotels, beach cottages, and concession and vendor stands line the back of the beach.

The snack bar here is the ultimate convenience if you need a cold drink, or something to hold you over until dinner. You might also have the option to try local specialties from one of the mobile vendors who set up shop at the beach.

Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. Fortunately, umbrellas and chairs will be available for visitors seeking a break from the hot sun. Happily, the off-shore waters are clear enough for snorkeling, so grab your equipment if you want to do some underwater exploration. A popular destination among tourists and locals, Boca Chica is a crowded beach, especially on weekends. The social scene is very upbeat with plenty to do and see.

Remember to take into account that the area surrounding Boca Chica is rather congested, so the availability of certain facilities is likely to be affected.
