Boca Chica

Boca Chica's shallow waters are great for swimming and snorkeling, especially around the coral reefs -- in fact, this beach is the largest reef protected bay in the Caribbean. Water sport equipment is available at stands along the beach, so visitors should find plenty to keep them busy. A number of restaurants and bars are also within close proximity to Boca Chica, so guests can party from sun up til sun down.

Located toward the southern outskirts of Boca Chica, this beach is on the South East coast of the Dominican Republic. You should consider dropping by regardless of whether you're staying in the vicinity. At Boca Chica, you'll have the best of both worlds: plenty to see and do nearby, but less crowds and noise than at other beaches.

How to Access The Beach
Boca Chica is located just 15 minutes from the airport in a town of the same name. Head east on Autopista Las Americas, and exit south into the peninsula.

Amenities and Ambiance

Located near the capital city of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica is a mile long stretch of white sand beach. The shallow water is crystal clear, filtered by underwater springs and protected by a natural coral reef about 1/4 mile off shore. The reef forms in a giant semi-circle, protecting the beach from rough waters. Hotels, beach cottages, and concession and vendor stands line the back of the beach.

The concession stand located here is another lunchtime alternative. Sometimes, visitors will be able to buy food from one of the local vendors who typically set up on this shoreline.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. Luckily, chairs and umbrellas are offered at this beach for visitors looking for some respite from the sun. The water in the area is clear and good for snorkeling, so grab some gear if you're looking to see what goes on beneath the surface. A popular destination among tourists and locals, Boca Chica is a crowded beach, especially on weekends. The social scene is very upbeat with plenty to do and see.

Remember to take into account that Boca Chica's location is highly urbanized, meaning the availability of certain amenities is likely to be affected.
