Sailors who have sailed the length of the Dominican Republic's south coast have noted that Boca Chica has excellent facilities and is very clean, especially compared to the nearby river in Santo Domingo that is a frequent yachting destination.
If you're planning an adventure on the high seas that will take you to Boca Chica, it helps to know what you're in for. When you're sailing to the Dominican Republic, you'll have to clear both Immigrations and Customs as a standard entry requirement, but some ports will require more of you. When you meet with Customs you'll have to declare everything you've brought with, and with Immigrations you'll pay $10(USD) for a 30 day visa, plus $43(USD) to clear your boat. Some ports will require that you pay $10(USD) for an Agriculture inspector to look at your produce, and in many cases someone form the Department of Drug Enforcement will inspect your boat below decks. Most ports, but not all, will also have someone from Marina de Guerra, which is the Coast Guard, inspect your boat and paperwork as well. There is no charge for the drugs or coast guard inspections.
Your experience will differ depending on where you dock in Boca Chica. If you tie to a government dock, you'll pay $0.70(USD) per foot per day; however, if you're able to anchor at a privae dock, there will be no charge. They can charge you a facilities fee, which could be anywhere from $50 to $100(USD).
