Taxis may not be as easy to come by in Bodden Town as they are in the busier resort area of Seven Mile Beach, but they are still available by phone and you'll occasionally find them near popular tourist attractions, resorts, and hotels. If driving around Grand Cayman on your own doesn't sound appealing to you, taxis are a great alternative for your main mode of transportation.
Likely, your first experience with a taxi driver will be when you arrive at the airport. It is easy to walk out of the building and find a taxi to get you to Bodden Town, but if for some strange reason there are none to be found, a taxi stand exists by the curb. This is also a good place to ask for a list of phone numbers for operators in the Bodden Town area, because more often than not you'll have to call to have a driver pick you up rather than hail one on the street. The concierge at your hotel can help you with this as well.
There are a few tips that will serve you well if you'll be using taxis a lot in Bodden Town. The first is that taxis are not as readily available at night, so it is best to make arrangements for nighttime pick up during the day. The second is that drivers are picky about the cleanliness of their cabs and will not generally pick up a passenger who is wet and sandy coming off the beach, so you'll want to find a shower, change clothes, or find some other way to clean yourself off before trying to catch a ride. Finally, taxi drivers can be hired as tour guides at lower prices than if you were to pay to have a driver take you from site to site “a la carte.”
If you are in a situation where you are unable to flag down a cab, call one of the numbers that follow.

There is no getting around it. The cost of taking a taxi in Bodden Town and throughout Grand Cayman is high. For example, the 25 minute drive from the airport to town is going to cost you more than $40(USD). The good news it that rates have been preset by the government, so you'll be able to ask your driver how much your ride will cost up front. Prices can vary slightly for different reasons. If you've got more than three passengers, you'll be charged one-third of the total price per person; if you have a lot of luggage there may be an upcharge; and if you travel between midnight and 6:00 a.m., you'll pay an extra 25 percent. On top of all of this, remember that your driver deserves a tip of between 15 and 20 percent of the cost of the total bill.

It might take a little extra work to find a taxi driver in Bodden Town, but not so much that this mode of transportation shouldn't be considered. If you'd prefer to avoid driving yourself around in a foreign country, aren't old enough to rent a car, or have your own reasons for wanting to get behind the wheel, using local taxi services is a great alternative.
