Boqueron Air Travel

First San Juan, then Boqueron

The nearest airport to Boqueron is also Puerto Rico's largest and most modern facility, the San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). Although you'll have to plan a secondary form of transportation into town from this airport, the ease of travel to the island from nearly anywhere in the world is a definite plus.

Knowledgeable tourists will note that there is in fact an airport in Boqueron; however, it is a private airstrip.

About the Airport

Owned by the Puerto Rico Ports Authority and managed by the Aerostar Airport Holdings, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is actually located three miles outside of San Juan in Isla Verde. It originally opened in May of 1955 when the need for a larger airport became apparent.

After many upgrades, today the airport has two runways (one is asphalt and measures 9,783 feet long and the other is 8,016 feet long and concrete) plus passenger friendly facilities like a collection of shops and restaurants, conference rooms, and more. More than eight million people travel through the airport on an annual basis.
