Natural Attractions in Boqueron

Most visitors head to Boqueron having heard tell of the gorgeous beaches, but there is an attraction that rivals this the sun and sand.  This town is also home to not one, but two nature preserves which tourists are welcome to tour and explore.  One is home to several species of endangered birds, while the other is one of seven state forests.  

Nature Preserves and Hiking

Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge

Do you enjoy being seeing the local flaura and fauna? You might be happy to find out that the area has quite a number of nature preserves in and nearby.

Refugio De Aves De Boqueron is a popular nature preserve located in Boqueron. In addition to bird-watching, more adventurous guests can grab a helmet and try out the mountain biking trails at the park that will have riders bouncing, banging, and twisting down winding trails. Some hiking trails are also available.

Vacationers looking to locate a another great natural attraction will be interested in seeing sites like Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge. An official national wildlife refuge of the United States, Cabo Rojo was established in 1974 as refuge for migratory birds and several tropical bird species that call the area home year-round.

Punta Pitahaya Nature Area: Part of the greater Boqueron State Forest (known locally as Bosque Estatal de Boqueron), the Punta Pitahaya is one of the prime spots in the state forest and the island to catch a close look at the wildlife and nature of Puerto Rico. With the quality of the nature experience and the relative ease of access, the Punta Pitahaya is a prime location for eco-tourist and nature lovers.
