Bridgetown is located on the island of Barbados, which means you'll have to choose one of two ways to get to there: fly or sail. For most visitors, flying to the sole airport on the island is going to be the most convenient and least expensive option for them, but knowing a bit about the airport and what to expect as you fly there can be helpful as you make your travel arrangements.
There is one airport on Barbados which services every destination on the island: (BGI). As you approach the airport, which is located eight miles outside Bridgetown in Christ Church, you will usually fly low along the west coast for a gorgeous view of the sea and tropical landscape.
Known as the leading airport in the region, Grantley Adams International Airport features a number of modern facilities. To start, the airport has been undergoing renovations since 2000, expanding the amount of space available for airlines, vendors, and passengers as well as upgrading navigational and security equipment. With these upgrades, the airport became one of the top ten busiest airports in the Caribbean, and is now a hub and secondary hub for several regional airlines. The airport has one asphalt runway that is 11,000 feet long and connects to five taxiways. Inside there are two terminals and 22 gates capable of handling the thousands of passengers that is serves annually, but designed to look like one long continuous structure.

The warm waters and cool breezes of Bridgetown are just a quick flight away from most travelers visiting from the United States, Canada, and Europe. Two dozen or more cities offer direct flights to this destination, which will make it easy to book from many of the major regional hubs. Others may have to book a flight that connects in San Juan but even when this is the case, there should still be very little struggle involved in planning your air transportation.

Regardless of which destination you fly from, when you arrive you will need to pass through customs before being welcomed to the arrival hall. In customs you will have to present a passport and a valid return air ticket. If you are staying longer than three months, you will also need a visa. It is important to be aware that Barbados has laws against camouflage materials, so if you are traveling with any, including personal clothing, it will be confiscated until you depart.
