Independence Arch

Set on the southern end of the Chamberlain Bridge in Bridgetown, the Independence Arch was built in commemoration of the 21st anniversary of Barbados' independence from Great Britain, which took place on November 30, 1966.

What to Expect

Visitors are welcome to walk through the archway and admire the impressive piece of construction which honors he cultural aspects of Barbados is many difference ways. If you are able to visit during November when Barbados celebrates its independence, the arch is lit up in the island's national colors of blue and gold.

Multiple cultural facets are depicted on the arch, including the flying fish, the pelican, and the Pride of Barbados flowers, which are all important national symbols. Also to be seen on the arch is the island's Coat of Arms and the National Pledge.
