Renting a Bike or Scooter in the BVI

Zip around the island on a bike or moped for a different sort of view

Getting around the British Virgin Islands on a bike or moped can be fun and exhilarating. It allows you to make your vacation more adventurous, and see all of the sites at closer range. And, as an added bonus, renting a bike and moped is very inexpensive – in some cases, even free.

That's right, free. Some hotels offer bicycles, and on an even rarer occasion, mopeds to their guests as a perk for staying with them. In this case, it is a first come, first served basis, so make sure to get up early any day you're in need of a bike to get around. If they run out, or do not offer this service, the front desk can recommend you to a nearby rental car agency, or a spot that specializes in renting out two-wheeled vehicles.

The terrain throughout the British Virgin Islands varies by island, and even within the islands themselves. On Virgin Gorda, you'll find mostly smooth roads, though they can be hilly and curvy in some places;  Anegada offers the flattest landscape, and there is a friendly biking community here; while Tortola offers the most diverse topography.  Along the coast there are long, winding roads, but as you move towards the interior you'll find that the roads become more rugged and that there are five very steep hills that will get your heart rate pumping and your calves doing most of the work.

If you like the idea of feeling the wind on your face as you move along, you will encounter a variety of different places that can help.

If you'd like to go riding, you can check with S&K Amazing Rentals. Make your island explorations just slightly more exciting by choosing to rent an ATV, hop on the back of a scooter, or ride a bicycle to get around. They are found within Setting Point, in northeastern the BVI.

Another good option is 3P's Scooter Rental & Sales. Virgin Gorda's top scooter rental facility is 3P Scooter Rental. With a wide selection available as well as the promise of low prices and friendly service, you can't get it wrong with this company. You can reach them at (284) 495-6870.

A third good option is Last Stop Sports. Last Stop Sports handles all of the sporting needs of tourists, from fishing permits to paddle boards. One of the most popular rental they offer is the mountain bike, an option tourists who want to explore Road Town using the power of their own legs as they make their way around. They're found in Road Town, the BVI.
