Cabarete Air Travel

Just 20 minutes from Cabarete is the Dominican Republic's fourth largest airport

With several international airports in the Dominican Republic, there are plenty of places that visitors heading to Cabarete can fly into. The best option; however, will be to fly to the Gregorio Luperón International Airport which is also located in Puerto Plata.

About Gregorio Luperón International Airport

Although considerably smaller than the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic (which is in Puerto Plata and welcomes over four million visitors each year), the Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is still an important part of air travel on the island. Located in Puerto Plata, it is actually the fourth busiest airport and welcomes just over 700 thousand passengers annually. It has 10 gates, five of which have boarding bridges and five without a frontal concourse. The runway is 10,108 feet long, and made of asphalt; the terminal can support three Boeing 747s at one time.

...several local ground transportation options...

Next Stop, Cabarete

Cabarete is less than a half an hour away from the airport, so there are several local ground transportation options available to get tourists to their accommodations. The first is to rent a car, which can be done with a number of rental agencies directly from the airport for somewhere between $30 and $120(USD) a day. The drive takes place mainly on Route Five.

Another option is to hire a taxi. Taxi drivers are kept abreast of the arrival times and are always waiting for tourists outside of customs. Rates are set by the company, and you can ask your driver for a rate card when you get into the vehicle so you know how much you'll be paying. It should cost around $35(USD) for four passengers.

A final option is to hire an airport transfer in advance. In this case, a vehicle will be sent to pick you up specifically and drive you in comfort to your accommodations. Private transfer costs about $80 per vehicle, but you can opt for a shared vehicle with strangers at under $15(USD) per person.

With an international airport just 20 minutes away, finding your way to Cabarete is possible from nearly anywhere in the world. You may need to make a few connecting flights along the way, but in the end, it shouldn't be a terrible hassle to get to your destination.
