While snorkeling continues to be much more popular amongst the trendy crowds that frequent Cable Beach, there are several off-shore reef systems that are certainly worth exploring if you're staying in this resort area. You can sign up for certification courses if you aren't already trained in the sport, and if you are, rent out equipment or charter a scuba tour through a number of local companies.
You'll find several dive operators and at least 4 good dive sites to choose from.
If you want to go diving, you might want to check with Stuart Cove's Diving. Fans of the movie "Flipper" may recognize this place, as in addition to being a fully functioning dive center, it was the set of the movie! You can join them today as they set out on another adventure to the many spots around New Providence that feature diverse and thriving ecosystems. They are found within downtown Nassau, 4.2 mi. East of central Cable Beach.
Another good option is Sandals Royal Bahamian Divers. If you've never dived before, you can sign up for certification course for one day of your stay at Sandals, then get out on the water for a 40 foot open water tank dive the next day. There are also specialized dives for those who have been previously certified. You can call them at (242) 327-6400.
A third good option is Custom Aquatics. With Custom Aquatics, you are paying for a fully day of diving aboard a private boat with your own guide and instructor. Use of wet suits and equipment is included. They're situated in Cable Beach.
