L'Anse Tortue is one of Dominica's softest sand beaches. Swimming can be rough, but you can enjoy laying a towel right on the soft sand to sunbathe, or take a barefoot stroll.
Located in Woodford Hill, L'Anse Tortue is on the North coast of Dominica. You should consider stopping by even if you are not staying in the immediate vicinity. The beaches on Dominica aren't usually known for their peace and quiet, but you'll find L'Anse Tortue to be a little calmer than most, which makes it an excellent attraction for those of you who'd prefer to stay out of the busiest areas.
You can access this beach by car from the main coastal road, but there is no signage to mark its location.
On the northeast coast, this tan sand beach is also known as Turtle Bay because sea turtles often lay eggs here. It's near Woodford Hill and bigger Calibishie if you need to head into town from here. Land masses jut out on either side of this beach, but the waters can still be quite rough.
Lots of visitors here find that the on-site snack bar is just fine for lunch. On some days, it may be possible to get lunch from one of the mobile vendors who typically operate along this coastline.
Please note that public restrooms are not available, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business.

Dominica has several beautiful beaches, so L'Anse Tortue is not your only option.
You might also enjoy Calibishie Beach, found within a mile or so. However, if that's not exactly what you're looking for, L'Anse Noire could provide more action, and is closer to other popular destinations. It's located a half mile to the east.
Another sun-drenched spot to consider is Anse du Mai, located reasonably close-by, so a quick cab ride will get you here pretty easily.
Perhaps L'Anse Tortue is the most convenient coastline for you to visit, but some travelers itch to explore more; in which case you should find a beach with a seclusion factor that suits you.
