If you're traveling to Cancun from another country, you will need to get through customs before your vacation can begin. On your flight, you'll receive a customs form which you should fill out before arriving in order to make the process go more quickly and smoothly. Also be sure to have your passport and any visas you are required to bring at the ready. Canadian citizens can travel to Mexico with a copy of their birth certificate and a picture ID, while most everyone else, including United States citizens will need a passport. When you arrive, you'll hand your form to a customs official, then you will press a button that will turn a light either green or red. If the light turns green, you are free to go, but if it turns red you're subject to further inspection. Although this is completely random, there have been reports that about every seventh passenger gets a red light.
If you bring more luggage with you than what a customs official considers to be reasonable for the length of your stay, you have an unusually large amount of medication listed, or you have food products in your luggage that are not factory sealed, these are red flags and will keep you waiting in customs even longer. You'll have to explain yourself and your luggage if an official feels something is out of the ordinary, which is why if you're traveling with medication it is a good idea to bring the signed prescription form with you.
Cancun may be one of the easiest destinations to reach in the whole of the Caribbean thanks to the huge number of airlines that offer daily flights to this location. All that you have to do is figure out which airport is the best departure point for you, and keep an eye out for good deals. Otherwise, booking a flight here should be no trouble at all.
