Because of the busy nature of Cancun with tourists always coming and going, the Discover Scuba course is especially popular. Those with an interest in diving are encouraged to advance their skills, however, thanks to the numerous local sites that advanced divers won't want to miss. From shallow 60 foot dives to much deeper shipwrecks waiting to be explored, there is a whole world of wonders off the coast of this resort town.
There are 13 dive services and at least 8 good dive sites to choose from.
If you're ready to go diving, you might want to check with Solo Buceo Dive Center. This center offers two different beginner scuba lessons daily, one from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They are found within Cancun Beach Hotel Zone, in eastern Cancun.
Another option is Cancun Scuba Center. Since 1990, Juan Carlos Garrido has been taking visitors out to explore what lies beneath the surface of the Caribbean Sea. While many dive centers along the strip stick to diving nearby, this operation schedules regular trips to the surrounding areas of Isla Mujeres, Tulum, and Cozumel. You can reach them at (998) 221-6289.
A third option is Scuba Cancun. One of the longest operating scuba centers in the area, Scuba Cancun opened over 30 years ago and has been training and diving with people from around the world ever since. The facility family owned and operated, with Captain Luis Hurtado at the helm -- a man who has been diving both commercially, for the military, and for sport for over 60 years. They're found in Cancun.
