Rental Cars on Carriacou

While taxis will suffice, renting a car adds extra independence to your adventures

Carriacou is a small island, but large enough that many people consider renting a car as their best means of getting around. It is not necessary by any means, but certainly an option.

Renting a Car

To rent a car on this island, you'll need you driver's license from your country of origin plus a local driver's permit which can be procured from the Central Police Station on the main island of Grenada, or from most rental car agencies. Most agencies will also require that you'll be over the age of 25, though some will allow renters to be as young as 21. If age is an issue for you, the best thing to do is to call ahead and find out if you'll be eligible to rent.

The Cost of Renting a Car

It could cost anywhere from $50 to $75(USD) a day to rent a car, so it is not too expensive, and prices go down even further if you rent for an extended period of time. A few other tips: driving is done on the left side of the road, though the steering wheel may appear on either side of the vehicle unless you specify which side you require it to be on, and the roads are not especially well maintained so it is always wise to drive with caution.

As you can see below, rates will vary depending on the season. The lowest rates shown are typically only available from the least costly agencies during the slowest times of the year. The highest rates are what you can expect at one of the busiest firms during the peak season.
