The current Government House is the third incarnation, with the first being destroyed in 1817, and the second abandoned in 1865. The third and final Government House was completed in 1895. Since its first completion, the Government House has served as the residence of the Governor of St. Lucia, until the island was granted commonwealth status. Since the 1979 independence, the Governor-General has used the residence.
The Government House is a popular attraction for anyone interested on St. Lucia history and Victorian architecture. Just be sure to make an appointment if you want to tour the inside.
Castries is a good option for those wishing to visit Government House, because visitors to this part of St. Lucia will have easy access to this historic attraction during their visit. With only a small number of hotels in the area within the vicinity of this historical site, less than average foot movement might be bargained on.

Government House guests will be able to enjoy one or two outdoor activities like golfing and enjoying water sports not far away. Guests who will enjoy showing their ability on the golf course, might want to do so at the closest golfing facility, which is Sandals St. Lucia La Toc Golf. Lazy hours can also be spent at La Toc Beach, the closest beach. Though the selection might be scarce, a couple other similar recreation options can be reached from Government House. You will find a variety of interesting places out of the sun in this general area. Located only a short distance away are another pair of nearby places you may want to check out--Derek Walcott Square and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
The Government House is open to visitors Tuesday and Thursday between 10:00am and noon, as well as from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, by appointment only. There are no open-house hours, everyone wanting to visit must call ahead.
