Taxis are a highly recommended form of transportation for tourists staying in Castries who don't want to deal with the sometimes difficult to manage roads. Fortunately, the cabs here are known for their cleanliness and the drivers are nice, even if it can get pricey traveling from place to place.
Although taxis come in all shapes and sizes in Castries, you shouldn't have a very hard time telling them apart from private vehicles thanks to the fact that they are typically marked with the word "TAXI" in one spot or another, and a license plate with red numbering that starts off with the letters "TX." Taxis are easily found in some of the more popular tourist spots like the cruise dock, the beaches, and downtown. You can get a ride to nearly everywhere on the island including Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, and either airport. In addition to getting you from point A to point B, you can also hire local drivers as tour guides.

...know the rate when you get in...
Like many other locations in the Caribbean, the taxis in Castries lack meters. Instead, rates have been set in advance, so you always know exactly how much it will cost to get from one destination to the next. The driver can let you know the rate when you get in the cab, and you can always ask to see the rate card, but be sure to clarify whether the prices listed are in U.S. dollars or if they are listed in local currency.
These rates are quotes in United States Dollars for up to four passengers. The price may go up for each additional passenger, and you will be charged extra for luggage as well. If your group would like to hire a driver for a tour, you'll be able to negotiate the price, but on average it is $200(USD) for four people to tour the entire island.

Using a taxi as your main source of transportation can be expensive, but the peace of mind that comes with knowing that a knowledgeable driver is at the wheel is worth it for many visitors during their stay in Castries.
