Many people dream of arriving in Belize, then hiring a private boat to take them across the calm waves to their final destination on Caye Caulker. This isn't always how things work out, and it often ends up being not only more time efficient, but cost effective to fly.

Instead of flying to Caye Caulker, many tourists choose to take a cab from Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport to the Belize City Marine Terminal and take a ferry to the cay. The trip takes places aboard a double-engine speedboat that carries 20 to 40 passengers at a time for $10(USD) per person one way. The trip takes about 70 minutes. Although it may seem as though the ferry is the less expensive message, take into consideration the fact that the taxi ride will cost about $30(USD), and you'll see you aren't saving any money by choosing to sail rather than fly.

Still, you will need to get to Belize before making this decision.

Flying to Caye Caulker from the US

The first step in your journey to Caye Caulker will first be to get to Belize. The only international airport in Belize is in Belize City, which is just across the water from the cay. To get to Belize City, you can fly directly from Houston, Texas; Miami, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Raleigh, North Carolina. Currently, American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways fly directly to Belize from these cities. Flights may also be available out of other areas in the U.S., but you'll have to make a connection to one of these four cities or in Guatemala or El Salvador.
