It was built by McLaughlin himself between the years of 1926 and 1930, and stands as one of the only remaining examples of classic Bracker architecture in the Cayman Islands.
Brunzil Rivers, daughter of Spellman McLaughlin, still lives in the home and offers tours on a regular basis. Though some modern modifications have been made, this property still offers a glimpse into the history of Cayman Brac.
The Spellman McLaughlin Home is a beautiful whitewashed clapboard structure with green trimming built from pine timber that he brought to the island himself from North Florida and South Georgia. Using hand made wooden pegs rather than nails more often than not, McLaughlin built the home from the ground up.
