Charlotte Amalie Taxis

Let someone with the experience and know-how drive you around Charlotte Amalie

One of the first things tourists will notice when they arrive on St. Thomas and hail a cab to take them to Charlotte Amalie is how different cab services are in this town. Still, with a well regulated system, and fairly low prices, utilizing local taxi services are a great option for transportation around Charlotte Amalie.

Taxi Companies

If you're looking to hail a cab, Charlotte Amalie is a great place to be. There are almost always taxis driving around town. Aside from the fact that Charlotte Amalie is the center of tourism on the island, the cruise ship dock is located here, and cruisers make up a huge percentage of business. You can hail a cab out on the street, or you can call the 24-hour radio dispatch service at (340) 774-7457.

In Charlotte Amalie, you won't see bright yellow luxury vehicles that offer private transport milling around busy areas. Instead, what you'll encounter is a hodge podge of unmatching vans, sports utility vehicles, and open air trucks that have been converted to have bench seating in the bed called “safari taxis.” Regardless of what the taxi looks like, they will generally seat between 4 and 12, and the primary goal of each driver is to get as many passengers in the vehicle going on the same route as possible. This may not be ideal for passengers used to private cabs, but it drives down costs for each individual, so in the end most tourists grow to accept and even like this twist on taxi transport. Despite all the different looks, you'll still be able to tell a taxi apart from a private vehicle by looking at the license plate. If it is legally licensed, it will have the letters “TX” on the plate.

If you'd rather make reservations for a cab to meet you at a predetermined location and time, you may want to get in touch with one of these these taxi companies.
