Built in 1830 by the Dutch, this grand house housed the Governor of the islands until 1871 when the Dutch moved the capital to the island of St. Thomas. Today, the house is used mainly for historical education and cultural events.
The cream colored house features a grand staircase that can be accessed from three sides, like a peninsula descending to the ground level.
Downtown Christiansted is a good option for those wishing to visit Government House, because visitors to this area of the Virgin Islands will be excited to have easy site access throughout their trip. Although the area isn't a major tourism destination, you will still have a handful of lodgings to choose from.
