Since 1856, ships carrying trade through the port in Christiansted would be inspected by this early weight station, similar to the ones that can be seen for trucks on the highway.
While there are not many exhibits are attractions at the Scale House, visitors can ask some of the staff all the questions you have about the history of the city and island.

Opportunities for some fun in the sun like hitting a few rounds of golf and heading to the beach are by no means hard to come by in the area. Historic site visitors with a keen interest in golf can do so at the nearest course, Buccaneer Golf Course. Lazy hours can also be enjoyed at Sugar Beach, the most close-by beach. Also, an additional selection of outdoor opportunities are available in the community. Historic site guests will also find plenty of interesting places out of the sun in the vicinity. Not far away are two additional alluring attractions close by--Customs House and Steeple Building.
The Scale House is open until 4:30pm everyday of the week. It opens at 8:00am during the week, while on the weekends it opens an hour later at 9:00am.
