Steeple Building

What began as a Lutheran Church is now a museum called the Steeple Building detailing, among other important topics, the history of the slave trade on St. Croix.


Exhibits at the Steeple Building include ancient Indian artifacts, Victorian and Danish architecture, and a study of the plantation era with a great deal of emphasis on the slave industry.

Staying Close

Steeple Building is located in downtown Christiansted, so those staying in this part of the Virgin Islands will have convenient access to the museum for the duration of their trip. You won't find the area surrounding the museum flooded with tourists, especially as there are so few lodging options close.

If you find yourself hungry after spending time in the museum, no problem -- you'll find a numerous supply of dining possibilities within traveling distance. The most frequented nearby eatery is balter, which serves Indian food. balter is only about less than a hundred yards from this landmark, so stop in and dig in! Bistro Cafe and Twin City Coffeehouse are some more food and drink options near Steeple Building. At Twin City Coffeehouse you and your group should not ask for your check without sampling their specialty, coffee.
