Spanning 130,000 square feet, the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico has worked towards providing the Puerto Rican public with access to contemporary artwork since 2000. There is a permanent collection of Puerto Rican and Latin art from the 16th century to present, plus a number of educational programs that are available to educate the public and raise awareness about the world of visual arts.

The West Wing of the museum features 14 exhibition galleries and the museum's permanent collection. The East Wing, meanwhile, houses a 400-seat theater, two exhibition galleries, art studios, a computer lab, and a classroom.

Over in the atrium, visitors have access to the museum store, the restaurant, and the gardens. Out in the gardens is a sculpture garden, dispersed throughout 106,000 plants.
