How to Reach Corozal by Airplane

You may have to change flights a few times before arriving in Corozal

Belize City connects to the rest of the country of Belize via a series of small airstrips and two local airlines that provide the transportation. After arriving in the once capital city, you can choose whether you'll fly directly from the international airport, or stay in the city for a night or two and take a less expensive flight from the municipal airport.

Flying to Corozal from the US

Direct flights from the United States can be booked aboard American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways from Houston, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; and Raleigh, North Carolina. If you're planning on flying from elsewhere in the country, or from Canada, you'll likely connect to one of these cities, or in Guatemala or El Salvador. There are currently no flights available from Europe to Belize, so it may take some work and switching airlines in the U.S. to get there from across the Atlantic.

All International flights into Belize are sent to the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City – though the airport is actually located about 30 minutes outside of the center of Belize City in Ladyville. This is the largest airport in the entire country, and includes a number of extra facilities such as restaurants and shops in the main terminal, a bank in the departure terminal, and a tourist information booth in the baggage claim area. Across the parking lot from baggage claim is a line of rental car agencies. If you need to take a taxi, you'll find them as soon as you exit the airport. You can expect to pay between $25 and $30(USD) to do so.

Flying to Corozal from Europe

Flying to Belize is not that simple for European travelers – the journey requires layovers and switching airlines, as there are no direct flights to Belize from Europe. Instead, you will need to look for a flight into one of the regional hubs like San Juan or Cancun, or else first fly into the United States.

Once you land in the Americas, you will likely be leaving the European airlines behind. Below is a chart that has European contact information for some of the airlines you might use once you cross the Atlantic.

Flying to Corozal from the Caribbean

Named for the town in which it is located, the Corozal Airport is Corozal's only airstrip. It is located a mile south of of the center of town, on the southern coast of the island. Featuring only a 6,299 foot long concrete runway, there are no facilities available here, and taxis meet guests right off the runway. It'll cost about $5(USD) to get into town.

From Belize City, tourists will generally have to make one more stop before finally reaching Corozal, and that is on the nearby island of Ambergris Caye. Whether you're flying from the municipal airport or Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, you'll have the choice of flying with domestic carriers Maya Island Air and Tropic Air. If you fly with Maya Island Air you'll touch down at the San Pedro Airport on San Pedro at 7:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., or 4:30 p.m., then fly for another 25 minutes before reaching the Corozal Airport on Corozal. This flight costs $41(USD) each way.

See the table below for scheduled air service from other airports in the Caribbean. If there are no flights from an airport near your home, making a connection through another airport in the Caribbean could be a good solution.
