Best known as one of the top scuba diving locations in the Caribbean, Cozumel ranges from an undeveloped east side to a small, but tourist friendly town at the center of the island.  Most visitors plan to spend as much time as they can exploring the underwater landscape, or out on a boat sailing or fishing.  If you've got a few hours to spend on land, however, there are other activities to keep you busy as well.

Mayan culture is a big selling-point for a vacation in the Mexican Caribbean, and Cozumel doesn't disappoint.  There are a few ruins on the south side of the island for visitors to check out on a sightseeing tour, but if you prefer to stick to San Miguel there are organized museums that touch on music and other important cultural topics.  There are also more than 300 restaurants and bars on the island, and nightlife in the downtown area is not to be missed.  Don't forget the numerous relaxing activities which include lounging on the beach, getting in a round of golf, taking a steam or enjoying a massage, and shopping near the cruise ship terminal – preferably when there is not a ship docked in order to avoid the crowds.

Known world-wide as one of the signature diving locations, any diver making their way to Mexico should try to stop by Cozumel. Rich in coral, walls, and wildlife, the sites off the island's coast makes for a great experience no matter what the skill level.
