The waters along these shores are relatively calm, so beachgoers can safely enjoy swimming and other aquatic activites, including kayaking. Vacationers can also explore a small site of Maya ruins located near the beach.

Located on the eastern coast of the island of Cozumel, You might want to drop by whether or not you are staying very close. This beach is not just another pleasant piece of the coast, it's one of the rare "quiet" beaches in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean. While Playa Bonita may be a little bit out of the way, it allows you to relax without being bothered by the noise of the crowds.

Amenities and Ambiance

The remote yet stunningly beautiful beach of Playa Bonita is located on the northern shore of the island of Cozumel and features pristine sands and spectacular scenery. This crescent-shaped cove, dotted with majestic palm trees, overlooks crystal clear Caribbean waters.

Lots of visitors here find that the on-site snack bar is just fine for lunch. Depending on the season and time of day, you may also be able to buy food from one of the mobile vendors who are typically found at this location.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. The oceanfront setting at Playa Bonita is that of romantic seclusion. This beach is the perfect place to take that special someone on a picnic for two or enchanting stroll at sunset.

Playa Bonita offers visitors a quiet and relaxing place to escape, in part because the surrounding area contains little build-up and is free of urbanization.

Found on the North East coast of Cozumel; it will be near other attractions like Cozumel Country Club, which is a short taxi ride away.

Cities and Towns

The closest metropolitan area to Playa Bonita is Playa del Carmen. Considering that the center of town is 21 and a half miles to the west-northwest of Playa Bonita, you may need a bit more time to reach this beach, if you're staying in that area or beyond.


How many other people you encounter at Playa Bonita will vary depending on the time of day, particularly in the high season when hotels overflow with tourists.

You won't find any of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean's large hotels near this beach, but if you're looking to elude masses of vacationers, the lack of places to stay should be a pleasant sight.


You might not find any places to eat near this beach, so it would be a good idea to plan a picnic if you want to fully enjoy your time spent at the beach.

Other Beaches

There are multiple beaches to discover on Cozumel, of course, so if Playa Bonita doesn't sound like your type of scene, you have options.

You might also enjoy Sunset Beach, another place which provides plenty of opportunities to relax. However, if that's not exactly what you're looking for, Playa Xhanan could provide a few more possibilities for excitement, and is closer to other popular destinations. It's found four miles to the north-northeast.

Another sun-drenched spot to consider is Santa Pilar, which is located ten miles to the west-northwest. Although there is little privacy on the Santa Pilar beach, vacationers staying at nearby hotels and resorts will love the convenient location of these shores.

Maybe Playa Bonita is a perfect spot for you to kick back, and at the same time perhaps not the the ideal fit; in which case you should find a beach with a seclusion factor that suits you.
