Shopping on Cozumel

As cruise ships dock and cruisers descend upon the town of Cozumel, local shops open up and await the madness that ensues.  While there is a lot to recommend a visit to this island, shopping is at the top of the list.

Cozumel is known for having three different shopping zones.  The first is La Plaza del Sol right on the waterfront, the second is the Crafts Market behind La Plaza, and the third is at Punta Longasta Pier.  Of course, you'll also find other shops around the island, but these spots are where most of the magic happens.

Shopping at the cruise pier is where you'll typically find the most expensive prices and the shop keepers least willing to haggle.  You'll have a better time of it if you are able to venture back a few blocks.  Be on the lookout for jewelry, clothing, liquor, cigars, electronics, shoes, and handmade crafts.  Shops are generally open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. then again from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

When shopping in this area, be sure to keep cash on you in small bills so you have a better chance at haggling.  If you do use a credit card, make sure to write down the date, description, and price of every transaction.  A common scam here is to purposely overcharge credit card users, and you may find a different price on your bill than what you were quoted in the store.

Specialty Shops

One of the interesting specialty retailers in this area is AquaWorld Dive Shop. They are located in western Cozumel. Whether you'd like to snorkel, participate in the Discover Scuba Course to begin your dive training, or sign up for an underwater excursion, AquaWorld has you covered. Visitors will be able to find them at 77600 San Miguel.

Another good option is Pepe Scuba Dive Shop, which is found 4.2 mi. (6.7 km) away from AquaWorld Dive Shop. Over 20 years of experience diving from the island, and the staff at this center still has an unmatched passion for the sport. Visitors will find them on Coastal Road North.

Blue Angel: Boats depart daily at 8:00am and 10:00am for a two tank dive, 11:00 a.m. for a snorkeling and dive combo trip, and 1:00 p.m.
